PREPARATION OF NEW ABSORBENT SUPPORTS
(WALLS, FLOORS, ETC.)
Clean and remove all inconsistent parts that may affect the adhesion of DECOR STONE. Remove any dirt residue with the appropriate DECOR CLEAN detergent, rinse and let dry. Apply, preferably with a roller, a layer of DECOR FIX impregnating base coat and let dry 2-3 hours. Before applying DECOR STONE, vacuum the support carefully to remove all non-adherent residues on the surface. In the case of very irregular soils or in the presence of moisture, consult our Technical Department.
PREPARATION OF TREATED ABSORBENT SUPPORTS
(WALLS, COLUMNS, ETC.)
Clean and remove all inconsistent parts that may affect the adhesion of DECOR STONE. Remove any dirt residue with the appropriate detergent (DECOR CLEAN – DECOR CLEAN OIL) detergent, rinse and let dry. Apply, preferably with a roller, a layer of DECOR FIX impregnating base coat and let dry 2-3 hours before applying DECOR STONE. In the presence of moisture, consult our Technical Department.
PREPARATION OF NON-ABSORBENT SUPPORTS
Thanks to its adhesion characteristics, DECOR STONE can directly apply on non-absorbent supports, such as ceramic coatings, stoneware, etc. Wash surfaces carefully to remove residual dirt, let dry. Before applying DECOR STONE, vacuum the support carefully to remove all non-adherent residues on the surface. In the case of very irregular soils or in the presence of moisture, consult our Technical Department.
MIXING AND APPLICATION
Mix DECOR STONE using a mechanical shaker with 21% water. Always with agitation, add the DECOR COLOR dye until the mixture is complete. Let the mixture stand a few minutes before using it. In the case of very high ambient temperatures, it is recommended to add an additional 2% of water. The same water addition can be made if a smoother and more fluid mixture is desired. To apply the product, use a flat stainless steel spatula, do not use worn stainless steel spatulas to avoid dirtying the product surface. Apply the first layer (minimum 2 kg/m²) and using irregular rotating movements, create a smooth surface with an uneven design. To ensure the application of the correct amount (2 kg / m²), we recommend the use of a stainless steel toothed spatula. After at least 24 hours, if necessary sand any roughness cleaning carefully the surface of the dust. Proceed with the application of a layer of DECOR FIX impregnating base coat. After 2-3 hours, apply the second layer of DECOR STONE (at least 1 kg/m²), taking care to apply the product in relation to the desired final appearance. The use of DECOR FIX impregnating base coat between the first and second layers is essential in the tile supports to avoid that, due to the different absorption of the joints compared to the tiles, the signs of the joints on the surface can be highlighted on finished surface.
On all other supports, the application of DECOR FIX impregnating base coat between the first and the second layer, allows to reduce the absorption of the same support, facilitating the application of the second layer of DECOR STONE. Apply at room temperature between 10 and 30°C.
PROTECTIVE FINISHES
FLOOR
After 24 hours from the placement of the last layer, it is possible to proceed with the protective finish. In the case of floor subject to high pedestrian traffic (offices, shops, etc.) it is necessary to wait at least 72 hours before proceeding with the finishes. Apply two layers of DECOR FIN FONDO with a roller or a special wax spreader with an interval of 45-60 minutes, one from the other, the first layer diluted from 30% to a maximum of 50% with water to favour the impregnation. DECOR FIN FONDO is an acrylic sealant specially designed for very porous floor with anti-dust and stain effect. After approximately 1 hour, apply two layers of DECOR FIN PLUS with a brush, roller or a special wax spreader with a 30-60 minute interval between one layer and another. DECOR FIN PLUS is an acrylic emulsion for the protection of mineral supports with tested anti-slip effect and satin appearance. After 6-12 hours the floor is walkable. For surfaces subject to high pedestrian traffic or when a “matt” finish is required, it is recommended to use DECOR FIN HDR, bicomponent matt finishing, replacing DECOR FIN PLUS. DECOR FIN HDR should be applied with a roller in two layers, with the obligation to place the second layer between 12 and 24 hours after the application of the first.
VERTICAL SURFACES (walls, columns, etc.)
After 24 hours from the placement of the last layer, it is possible to proceed with the protective finish. Apply two layers of DECOR FIN FONDO with a roller or a special wax spreader with an interval of 45-60 minutes, one from the other. SURFACES IN CONTACT WITH WATER (showers, etc.)
After 24 hours from the placement of the last layer, it is possible to proceed with the protective finish. Preferably, apply a layer of DECOR HYDRO B coat to the surface to make the surface waterproof. Let dry 12 hours before applying the protective wax DECOR WAX, a very fine compound of waxes and special additives that combines a very natural aesthetic appearance with high resistance to dirt and natural waterproofing. It can be applied with a brush or soft cloth in two layers in 12-24 hours of difference. Between one layer and another, it is necessary to polish the wax with a soft cloth. The same operation must also be carried out after drying the second layer, to obtain the "soft" and natural appearance of the wax. To maintain the water repellence of the walls inside the showers, it is recommended to apply a layer of DECOR WAX protective wax every 8-12 months.
CHROMATIC EFFECT
It is possible to accentuate the contrast colour of DECOR STONE by applying, before transparent finishes, DECOR PATINA. On dry DECOR STONE, apply a layer with a brush, irregularly, of DECOR FIN FONDO and let dry about 30 minutes. Apply a layer of DECOR PATINA allowing the product to dry for a few minutes, then remove the excess with a damp sponge until the desired effect is obtained. After 3-4 hours it is possible to proceed with the application of protective finishes as described above.
WARNINGS
The drying times of the products that make up the DECOR STONE system can suffer sensitive variations depending on the temperature and relative humidity of the environment. The colours in the chart colours are indicative since different batches of cement can give slightly different colour effects; on large surfaces it is recommended to use the same batch of DECOR STONE. The tools can be cleaned with water, except those used for the application of DECOR WAX, so we recommend cleaning them with paper and storing them for later applications.
